Purdy gets gold in judo

Gavin Purdy, 19, of Claremont, a student at Cal State Fullerton, won a gold medal at the National Collegiate Judo Association's 2009 Championship last weekend at San Jose State University.
Purdy started judo when he was 6 years old under the instruction of the Goltz Judo Club, which is part of Claremont Human Services. The club practices at Alexander Hughes Community Center.
Purdy also routinely practices at the West Coast Training Center and the Orange County Kodokan under world and Olympic champions. Purdy is a first-degree black belt.
